Called the ‘Dean of Science Fiction Writers,” Robert A. Heinlein was born today in 1907 (d. 1988). Although sometimes called a conservative, I think his political and social thinking were much more complicated than that, as evidenced by his writing such books as Stranger in a Strange Land and his close friendship with, and financial support of, liberal author Philip K. Dick. He was what I would call a ‘progressive conservative,’ an entity rarely seen these days. Here’s a brief collection of his quotations:
