Smooth jazz ballad singer Billy Eckstine was born today in 1914 (d. 1993). Whether you like the style of music or not, the man had a set of pipes on him.

Blues pianist and singer Johnnie Johnson, best known for playing on many of Chuck Berry’s hits, was born this day in 1924 (d. 2005). Although never a top headliner, Johnson’s solid piano was an integral part of Berry’s success, and he was quite a performer in his own right.

Ballad singer Gennaro Luigi Vitaliano, better known as Jerry Vale, entered the world on this day in 1931. Here’s a sample of his work:
