SEX IN THE NEWS
 from Planet Proctor

The expression “get laid” supposedly has its roots in the Everleigh bordello in 1900s Chicago, as in “I’m going to get Everleighed tonight.” [And ‘getting your ashes hauled’ may have come from the days when boilers for homes and buildings were heated by coal or wood fires. When it came time to shovel out and take away the built-up ash, many brothels would pay off the ash haulers in ‘trade’ rather than cash.]

The first condoms in the U.S. were made from vulcanized rubber [but could you ‘stop on a dime’?], and pubic wigs, or “Merkins,” were introduced by prostitutes in Victorian times to prevent lice. [Now we know what a Teabagger means when he says he’s a good ‘A-merkin’.]

Syphilis is known as “the French disease” in Italy and “the English disease” in France. [It was also known as “the French Pox” in Colonial America.]

Dr. Kellogg marketed his corn flakes hoping it would reduce masturbation… [Only if the crumbs are super-glued to ‘Little Elvis’.]

In the 1940s, a Dr. Walter J. Freeman began prescribing a cure for homosexuality; and by 1955, more than 19,000 “deviants” had received the treatment – a lobotomy. Homosexuality is punishable by death in certain regions of Afghanistan, Iran, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. More enlightened countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, India and Uganda offer a less harsh punishment – life in prison.

Up until 1884, a Victorian woman could be sent to prison for denying her husband sex… [And prison may have been preferable for some women.]

In Lebanon, men are legally allowed to have sex with animals, but they must be female because having sex with a male animal is punishable by death. [Is this called the ‘Santorum Law’?]

In Hong Kong, a betrayed wife may legally kill her husband, but only with her bare hands, yet she can whack her husband’s paramour any way she wants…

Ten percent of people think Brazilians are the sexist people on earth. Americans are second at 9% and the French, third, at 8%. Eleven percent of adults worldwide have never had sex; and according to the archives of general medicine, coffee drinkers copulate more frequently and enjoy it more than non-coffee drinkers…

The United States has more laws governing sexual behavior than every country in Europe combined… [Puritanism: the gift that keeps on giving.]
