Chicago drummer Danny Seraphine was born today in 1948.

Country-pop star Shania Twain was born this day in 1965.

Prolific inventor and musical innovator Léon Theremin was born yesterday (Aug. 27) in 1896 (d. 1993). Theremin set the course of electronic music with his invention of the eponymously-named Theremin in the 1920s, as well as providing chilly sounds for post-war sci-fi and horror films.

The Big Man on Sax, Lester “Pres” Young, was born on August 27 in 1909 (d. 1959).
